Em dezembro de 2009 os evangélicos devem somar 49,8 milhões no Brasil, 25,4% de um total de 196,5 milhões de brasileiros e brasileiras. A persistir essa curva de crescimento, em 2020 os evangélicos serão 100 milhões no país.
A projeção é do Ministério de Apoio com Informação (Mai), liderada pela matemática Eunice Stutz Zillner, 51 anos, membro da Igreja Presbiteriana Independente do Ipiranga, de São Paulo. O Mai foi criado por Eunice e seu marido, o engenheiro eletrônico Marcos Zillner, em 2003.
Com base em dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), o Mai realiza projeções e análises, proporciona treinamentos e consultoria a igrejas. “Nosso desejo é que os números incomodem e gerem trabalho, evangelização”, declarou Eunice em entrevista para Andréa França, da Revista Graça.
O Mai quer mostrar onde é necessário investir em evangelismo. “Não estou interessada em sensacionalismo, em apresentar dados chocantes, mas, sim, em ‘fotografar a situação’ e ‘revelar a foto’ mais nítida possível”, explicou a matemática.
Segundo o Censo de 2000, o Norte do Brasil, com 19,8%, era a região com maior presença evangélica, e, conforme as projeções do Mai, continuará com essa posição e terá 32% em dezembro de 2009, seguidas das regiões Centro Oeste, com 31%, Sul, com 19,8%, e Nordeste com 19,2%.
Roraima é o Estado da federação que reúne o maior percentual de evangélicos (46,8%), com 226,3 mil, de um total de 483,6 mil habitantes, seguido do Amazonas, com 41,9%, Acre, com 39,9%, Rio de Janeiro, com 36,3%, Distrito Federal, com 35,9%, e Espírito Santo, com 35,2%.
